Efficient Indexing Methods for Temporal Relations
نویسندگان
چکیده
The size of temporal databases and the semantics of temporal queries pose challenges for the design of efhcient indexing methods. The primary issues that affect the design of indexing methods are examined, and propose several structures and algorithms for specific cases. Indexing methods for timebased queries are developed, queries on the surrogate or timeinvariant key and time, and temporal attribute and time. In the latter case, several methods are presented that partition the timeline, in order to balance the distribution of tuple-pointers within the index. The methods are analyzed against alternatives, and present appropriate empirical results. Index Terms -Indexing, physical organization, query processing, searching, temporal databases.

Efficient Indexing and Retrieval of Motion Capture Data Based on Adaptive Segmentation
In this paper we propose a unified approach to efficient indexing and content-based retrieval of human motion capture data as used in data-driven computer animation or computer vision. Opposed to other data formats such as music or video, the kinematic chain (a kind of human skeleton) as underlying model of motion capture data allows to introduce qualitative boolean features describing geometri...
متن کاملHigh-Dimensional Spatio-Temporal Indexing
There exist numerous indexing methods which handle either spatio-temporal or high-dimensional data well. However, those indexing methods which handle spatio-temporal data well have certain drawbacks when confronted with high-dimensional data. As the most efficient spatio-temporal indexing methods are based on the R-tree and its variants, they face the well known problems in high-dimensional spa...
متن کاملSpatio-Temporal Indexing Methods for Moving Objects for Highly Interactive Environment - Systems, Man, and Cybernetics, 1999. IEEE SMC '99 Conference Proceedings. 1999 IEEE International
This paper deals with spatio-temporal indexing methods for moving objects. Spatio-temporal indexing method gives a basis for data management structure for efficient search for large scale spatio-temporal data. In this paper. t\co types of indexing methods are proposed for managing spatio-temporal data for moving objects. Both methods are evaluated by computer simulation. and the merits and deme...
متن کاملDesign and Implementation of a Temporal Extension of SQL
We present a valid-time extension of SQL and investigate its efficient implementation on an Object-Relational database system. We propose an approach where temporal queries are expressed using a point-based time model, which only requires minimal extensions to SQL:1999. Our prototype system called TENORS (for Temporal ENhanced Object-Relational System) maps the external point-based temporal que...
متن کاملEfficient Temporal Join Processing Using Indices
We examine the problem of processing temporal joins in the presence of indexing schemes. Previous work on temporal joins has concentrated on non-indexed relations which were fully scanned. Given the large data volumes created by the ever increasing time dimension, sequential scanning is prohibitive. This is especially true when the temporal join involves only parts of the joining relations (e.g...
